The Kolling Institute of Medical Research is the principal centre of health and medical research affiliated with the Northern Sydney Local Health District, and plays a major role in research training through the Northern Clinical School of the University of Sydney. We support the Kolling’s research right from concept through to dissemination. We provide grant funding reviewing, grant application support and run training sessions designed to increase researchers’ funding success rate. We have also supplied a range of content for the Kolling Foundation, building community engagement and turning patient populations into motivated donors.
We have been consulting widely across the University for nearly a decade. We have advised on or written countless funding submissions for researchers, research teams, centres and pan-university initiatives, including successful multi-million-dollar pitches to the NHMRC, ARC and the private sector. We have written components of the university’s ERA submissions to the federal government, since the process was first trialled in 2009. And we have worked with almost the entire senior leadership team, assisting in the writing and development of the university’s China Strategy, Health & Medical Research Strategic Review, Biomedical Imaging Strategy, and business case for the National Centre for Cultural Competence. We are currently part of the team developing the University’s next 5-year Strategic Plan.
Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia
Messaging around prostate cancer is complex due to the target audience (usually older men with poor health literacy), expert disagreement over PSA testing, and the severe side effects facing men who are treated. PCFA received funding from Cancer Australia to produce a suite of evidence-based resources targeted at different sectors of the community including gay and bisexual, non-English speaking and Aboriginal men. We worked closely with PCFA experts to tailor the resources for patients and their families. We also helped PCFA to revamp its website and wrote a number of annual reports, showcasing the outcomes of its work to fundraisers, supporters and clients around Australia.
Kids Research Institute
The research arm of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, the Kids Research Institute conducts a wide range of clinical, basic and population research aimed at improving the lives of sick children. We help the Institute to tell the story of its research through its website, a series of annual reports and in pitch documents designed to grab the attention of philanthropists, corporates and politicians.
